I would like to congratulate all of those members that took advantage of the 15th Anniversary patch deal and paid your dues. The Lodge looks forward to seeing you in the future at events and giving service when the opportunity presents its self. Since this is the Lodge’s 15th Anniversary, this is the year to do great things. Remember to stay an active, honored Brother. The best way to get involved is to join a Committee, get involved in a Chapter, or help you troop out. Find an outlet that you are interested in to help the Scouting movement and the ideals of camping. If you need suggestions or would like to find out exactly what you can do, let me know. The Lodge can find a great position or job that suits to your skills.

If you have taken a stroll outside recently then you are not alone, Summer is here and the weather is getting better. This means that our Summer Camp activities are upon us. When you come to camp look to see what all there may be for you to do. These items include: Brotherhood conversion, assisting with the Call-out ceremony, and building fires.

Spring is a very busy time for our Lodge. In May, two events will happen and they are approaching faster then you think.

First, May 16th -18th for our Lodge’s Spring Ceremonial at Heritage Reservation. This weekend provides another opportunity for Ordeal Candidates to complete their ordeal and join our Lodge. During the weekend, we will be performing service projects that will assist in preparing the camp for the mass flow of Scouts and Scouters for this year’s Road Trip 2008. Third, May 30th - June 1st for Spring Service Weekend at Camp Baker. This will be the last opportunity Ordeal candidates to complete their ordeal prior to Summer Camp. This weekend also represent final camp to receive service in our two year rotation plan. This Fall, we will start the rotation again. Let us show Camp Baker the same level of service that we have provided to our Council's other 4 camps! There will be members from all over giving us all a great opportunity to meet them. You may even get to meet the new officers that will be installed from the January election. The U.S. Forest Service has set aside some of the highest priority projects in the most beautiful landscapes in America. If you are unable to attend with the contingent, the opportunity exists to go to one of the other four locations, including going with a smaller Pittsburgh contingent to the Virginia site.

Located in western Wyoming adjacent to the Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, the Bridger-Teton is one of the largest forests in the United States covering 3.4 million acres. Participants will construct mountain bike and hiking trails, remove fencing to allow unrestricted movement of wildlife, and help control fire through a fuels reduction project where the forest and urban areas meet.
The project will provide a much larger area and open range for wildlife, such as elk, moose, antelope, mule deer, bear, and wolf. The open range is especially important for these animals during the winter months when food is scarce. In addition, the larger available area will improve breeding, birthing, grazing, and it will reduce the transmission of disease. Clearly, this meaningful project will benefit many native flora and fauna for years to come.

News Flash and a reminder that now that the letters of intent were turned in at the November Lodge meeting. The elections are soon to follow. The elections will be at the January meeting on January 6, 2008. This is a youth run organization so I am looking forward to seeing our entire Lodge at Flag Plaza at 2:00 for the Election and to be able to partake and see a Lodge meeting.

As a reminder for all of those that have not heard. Also as an update, this year we have a special deal available for paying your dues this year.
