Leadership, perseverance, and dedication are words that are synonymous with this Silver Acorn recipient and now Vigil Honor candidate. John was elected into the Order Of The Arrow in the Summer of 2002. John has become a cornerstone of our Lodge with his dedication to the ceremonies aspect of the Lodge. This is shown by his undertaking of the field study on what the feasibility would be to renovate the ten-year-old ceremonial circle at Heritage Reservation. He contacted numerous elders of the Lodge as well as several contractors about supplies. With this he was able to get this proposal approved by the Council Properties Committee, and continued with the Lodge, with his hard work , to finish all the new seats at the circle as well as a different configuration which will allow us to add benches to the circle in future years if the need arises.
John has given numerous weekends, and days of his schedule to go to both Heritage Reservation, as well as our 4 satellite camps to cheerfully serve. John attained the rank of Eagle Scout in 2006, and was honored with being chosen to give the keynote address at the 2006 Greater Pittsburgh Council Eagle Scout Dinner he has also been an avid supporter of the Philmont Scout Ranch contingent from the Greater Pittsburgh Council which went in 2006. John has been an instrumental part of the Council’s Twin Arrow program (formerly known as the Junior Leadership Training Conference) serving as a staff member for the past four years.
He is also is slated to attend the National Leadership Seminar at Camp Alpine, New Jersey. He was selected along with 3 other active Arrowman to represent our Lodge at this training seminar. This course is deigned for those Arrowman who have demonstrated a clear examples that they have the desire to become a member of the Lodge Executive Board, which he has done. He is an excellent example of the model member of the Order Of The Arrow, and for this reason as well as many more, John Milligan is deserving of the Vigil Honor.
